“After what was an extremely stressful move with a new-born and a small child to our new family home, we could not have been happier with the beautiful and intuitive organisation and layout executed by the team.”

The family had been renting in nearby Primrose Hill for several years after moving from the States. They were slowly searching for their dream home until they found a gorgeous 5-bed home in St John’s Wood.

The clients’ work commitments meant they had very little free time around their move, but as a family with two young children, they wanted to be settled as quickly as possible.

The moving company they engaged offered a premium service, with unboxing and unpacking options, but the client knew this wouldn’t be enough. They wanted support to fully unpack and organise each room in a considered, practical and aesthetic way so their house felt like the home they dreamed of quickly, and with minimal energy and time required from themselves.

Efficiency, attention to detail and a complete service were their main requirements.

We planned initially to unpack and organise just a few of the key rooms in the house, but as the move progressed, the family decided to extend that to nearly the entire home. We were more than happy to help!

Although the family wanted to move in quickly, we had the luxury of a lengthy lead into this project.

The family had the keys for a few weeks before we started to unpack. The house was painted and cleaned and we were able to visit in-person to design a layout and organisational plan for each space, chatting with the owners to understand how they saw themselves living in the house and using each room.

As the move date arrived, the family stayed in a hotel for a couple of days to ease the transition from their old home to their new.

The movers delivered the boxes over the weekend, and on Monday morning, we started to make the house a home!

We started with the kitchen.

The family had moved from a much smaller home and had done a big edit before they’d left, so even though they’d bought lots of new glassware and crockery, we had plenty of space to play with. We created a really structured layout with space for everything from the children’s crockery to dinner party items.

We added organising products where needed to optimise the use of space, considering the style that matched the client’s home.

We coordinated a big food delivery mid-morning and we were able to fill the pantry cupboards ready for the family’s first meal in their new home.

The playroom and children’s rooms were organised next. One of the children’s rooms was a little short on storage space, so we had to think creatively. We had decided with the client, during our planning phase, that items not needed on a daily basis, should be stored in a second room to keep the room feeling clear and spacious and leaving him plenty of room to play. Thankfully his brother’s room had heaps of storage space, so all out of season (and to-grow-into) clothes were stored in there ready to be grabbed and switched over when needed.

The master bedroom came with a beautiful dressing room which we designed to feel really intuitive to use. Visibility and accessibility of those daily use items was key, so the morning routine was quick and simple.

Across the rest of the house we kept our use of organising products to a minimum, using boxes or baskets in hard to reach cupboards, and drawer dividers to create a structure within the drawers.

In the dressing room, however, the client wanted to make it feel really special. We replaced the mismatched hangers, with slimline black velvet ones – our favourite way to instantly elevate the space. Additionally, cotton rope baskets, and drawer inserts added structure and style to create a gorgeous, and functional space.

Too much space often comes with the risk of trying to fill it, but we were focussed on making the storage make sense. We chatted to the client about how things might change over the next few years as they settled into their new home and their children grew. We created arts and craft stations for the kids that could easily adapt to quiet homework areas in a couple of years. Changing stations for the baby will develop into spaces for clothes and toys. And ball pits and big soft toys will make way for gaming and slouching around with teenage friends!

"The lovely team from The Home Organisation were simply incredible! Over a period of 2 days the lovely team organised and labelled most of our belongings, across almost every room in our new family home. They were extremely professional, well prepared, and fast, and were open to feedback throughout the process.

Our rooms were organised so thoughtfully, with incredible attention to usage of space, family needs, flow and how a space could evolve over time in a growing family.

The service was so fantastic that I ended up increasing the scope of the work. I would not hesitate to recommend this amazing team for your organising needs at home!"
